The ream weight is the weight of 500 sheets; the M weight is the weight of 1,000 sheets. The M weight can be obtained by first finding the ream weight, rounding it by the rounding rules, then multiplying by two.

To find the approximate weight of a roll, multiply roll diameter squared minus core diameter squared by roll width and appropriate factor.

To determine the ream weight of any given size sheet, multiply the square inches in the given size by the given basis weight; divide the result by the square inch area of the basic size.

To convert basis weight of a given standard size of paper to grams per square meter (GSM), multiply its basis weight by 1406.5 and divide the results by the area of its basic size.

To determine the weight of an odd number of sheets, multiply the M Weight by the number of sheets; divide the result by 1,000.

To determine the pages per inch (PPI), divide two by the caliper of the given sheet.

To find the approximate linear footage in a roll of paper, multiply the weight of the roll by the square inches of basic size by 500. Divide by the sum representing the width of the roll, multiplied by the substance or basis weight, times 12.
